PROTECT and DETECT courses are open to selected government, university and civilian students. The training courses are designed under a criminal justice program and some courses have college credit recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE).
The PROTECT DETECT training system has been in constant development since 2001. Initially conceived in the remote jungles, rural villages and urban metropolis of Southeast Asia. In collaboration with the government agencies and the frontline end users, the doctrine has been continuously designed, developed, implemented, validated and updated to the constant changing situation and local environment where poaching and trafficking of wildlife is occurring. This systematic process has enabled the PROTECT & DETECT training system to be exported and adopted in Africa.
To support the development over the many years funding has been provided to develop doctrine and implement training courses from the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity, Blue Moon Fund, David Sheppard Wildlife Foundation, United States Department of State (USDOS), United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as well as in-kind support from many of the government departments who utilize the training system.
PROTECT & DETECT training system has been designed and developed for use by governments to combat the poaching and trafficking of wildlife.
The courses are all formal competency based training with a requirement to pass written and practical assessments.
